CLOSED FORUM: ISTE 2010 Conference Keynote Topic Suggestions

Welcome to the official ISTE 2010 Conference keynote topic forum.

THIS FORUM IS NOW CLOSED.

Please visit http://www.iste.org/iste2010-keynote/ to place your final vote.

The topic I'd like to see represented in a keynote at ISTE 2010 is...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".
(thinking…)

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

  1. Equity

There is a vast disparity between the technology available to wealthy school districts and that available to others. As well, there is a big difference in how they are used. I would like a keynote speaker to address this issue, including an analysis of the issue as well as suggested solutions.

        • Using technology to support inquiry-based education

As the trend toward inquiry-based education continues at all levels from kindergarten to AP coursework, well-chosen technology-based activities accompanied by insightful lesson planning may provide opportunities to achieve inquiry-oriented goals in a time-efficient manner--particularly in math & science.

          • Teacher(s) In The Trenches

What is missing from too many education conferences are examples of teachers who effectively accomplish exactly what the conference is promoting. Teachers and administrators just might connect with a teacher or teacherS sharing effective pedagogy using the new tools of learning so attendees get a clear picture of exactly what all this looks like.

We hear of new technology tools almost daily, but which ones really have an impact on student learning?

How can we help members of our communities personally understand the power of technology to constructively transform learning? Digital storytelling and oral history projects, which are community-focused, offer great promise in this regard.

                      • PLN: for students by students

Educators across the globe are leveraging web 2.0 tools to create their own personal learning networks. For many, it is the most powerful learning experience of their life. How can students replicate this? At what point should student be taught to replicate this? How are students already doing this?

                        • Transformational Influence: Finding and leveraging the small behaviors that make a big difference

The current research on positive influence (Influencer: The Power to Change Anything by Patterson et. all) talks about high leverage behaviors and promoting systemic change using the 6 areas of influence. We need to look at the research of change as it relates to incorporating the technology in ways that research shows will improve learning.

But we're dealing with people here - until we get past the technology and learn how to work with people, we will forever be stuck talking to each other. There are areas where systemic change IS happening.

We should try to get Patterson or one…

Unless you are 15 years old in 2010, you have no idea what it's like to be 15 years old in 2010.

One of the most frustrating things about the education profession is the scant amount of time we spend listening to the ideas and reflections of the students we teach when it comes to the realities of what it feels like to be taught and to learn. We can talk amongst ourselves all we like about 'leadership' and 'educational tools' and 'best practices', but over and over again it's the voice of the students themselves -- the ones with…

                              • Assessment in a world beyond the test

The cognitive apprenticeship is dead, the methods and tools of the industrialist classroom are like square pegs in round holes. How then, do teachers realign assessment with these new activties and new NETs outcomes. How to we encourage meta-thinking and step into a new era of assessment.

                                  • 22nd Century Skills: The Value of Visionary Thinking

We have already produced babies who will live on into the 22nd century. Rather than rehash and re-construe the arguments and mistakes of the past, we should take a moment to think about what their future holds. From neuro-networks and nanotechnology to the implications of the ways in which we use education to address environmental, aesthetic, economic, cultural, and social change; the 22nd century will be the result of the decisions that we make today. And for those children born today and for their children born tomorrow who will live into the 22nd century, nothing is more important than that…

                                    • Adapt, Lead, or Die: How Education Must Change to Survive

When today's first graders graduate from high school, will China and India outsource their menial jobs to the United States? That depends on how the educational system responds to the new opportunity and challenge of teaching and learning in a connected world. Technology is fundamentally changing the nature of knowledge creation and acquisition. Individualized, student-centric learning is disrupting traditional schools. How will this play out in ten years? How can we adapt and lead our children to thrive in this new world order?
