The topic I'd like to see represented in a keynote at ISTE 2010 is...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

  1. A model elementary & secondary classroom viewing using a variety of tech tools.

So many times we talk about all the things we need to do in the classroom yet we never get to see what we are talking about in action. I really believe the reason why we haven't moved as far as we could is because we have never experienced it. It would be great to take all of the ideas discussed on this list and put it on stage. Have a real teacher and real students showing what it looks like in the classroom. We need to see what it is like to use mobile devices and web tools live…

      • Baby Steps: How can we get all teachers to take ONE STEP towards great technology integration?

Many of the keynotes listed here describe HUGE shifts and MASSIVE changes in our students, schools and learning environment and yet what scares a lot of our colleagues is that too many changes will become overwhelming and make the already challenging task of teaching that much more difficult. So, what is the critical first step for our colleagues that have yet to stick their little toe in? What is the best first steps if YOU come to ISTE and feel the excitement but are overwhelmed by the sheer number of "shifts" or changes ahead? One step will bring upon another…

Digital ebooks and textbooks in accessible formats will bridge the gap between struggling learners and students with special needs to general curriculum. How can we accommodate and engage all learners to have an energizing learning experience in daily instruction?

National Technology Standards are being developed for implementation throughout the US. What will this mean for students? for teachers? for all educational leaders? What are the benefits? the drawbacks? How will equity of access be ensured?

                      • Exploring the idea of "Excellence"

Excellence means a lot of things to a lot of people...it's also a buzz-word in educational circles. With the "Race to the Top" underway in the U.S., how do "we" determine what the top really looks like?

                        • Authentic Learning: Real Audience and Real Purpose is what our kids deserve.

"[Our authentic classroom] changed the learning process because I wasn't being told what to learn, but how to learn it. I became my own teacher through the prompts and thought processes. I also learned a lot more about myself and others through the authentic writing process. Through all these assignments a lot of the false pretenses of people were lost and people became more real." - Actual Student Voice

                          • The virtual classroom's impact on learning

There is a large shift towards taking classrooms to the virtual space whether that be via classroom management sites, virtual worlds, google tools or other options. Why is this good/bad and what impact does this have on learning? What is the student success level? Is using this in k-12 schools preparing students for university level and/or the workforce?

                              • Transitioning from a "sage on the stage" classroom to a blended model of instruction

Today's teachers are confident and experienced in designing and delivering 20th century instructional experiences. However, many practicing teachers lack the "know-how" and understanding of current research that would enable them to transition their traditional pedagogical approach to a blended model of instruction that combines face-to-face instruction with online learning experiences. Keynote would focus on ways that teachers could design blended models of teaching and assessment for today's digital learners.

I'd like to see Professor Larry Cuban or scientist Clifford Stoll tell us why we should be a lot more critical of ICT utilisation. Cuban's work is well documented and still relevant. Why are learning technologists looking ahead to Web 3.0 when many students still can't effectively use Web 1.0? Why do schools and universities invest in hardware and have trouble investing in people (training, etc.)? Isn't it time to take stock and assess how ICT has really impacted upon teaching practice and student learning? Or has it all been simply 'old wine in new bottles'?
