Welcome to the official ISTE 2010 Conference keynote topic forum.

THIS FORUM IS NOW CLOSED.

Please visit http://www.iste.org/iste2010-keynote/ to place your final vote.

The topic I'd like to see represented in a keynote at ISTE 2010 is...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".
(thinking…)

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

    • Going back to get the future of education right

Our educational systems must change to better fit the needs of our students. What have we done right in the past that we can rework now? How does (and should) technology fit? Where can we look to for effective learning practices?

          • Leadership for breaking through the digital divide separating Digital Natives and educators

The single most profound realization in modern education is that today's youth are wired differently because they grew up immersed in technology. The neurophysiology of these Digital Natives is different--they have a unique and new way of learning. Educational Leaders must recognize this fact and begin to implement changes to traditional pedagogical practices, tools and learning environments so we can meet the academic needs of today's Digital Natives. We are charged with a mandate for breaking through the digital divide separating students and educators for teaching and learning to be truly effective in the 21st Century.

              • ELL's - What types of language education programs work, based on scientific research?

ELL students—the nation’s fastest growing K-12 population—are challenged to learn both the English language and academic content at grade level simultaneously. Who are the ELLs in our schools? (The vast majority are born in the U.S., are U.S. citizens, and begin school in kindergarten and first grade with their monolingual English-speaking peers.) What types of language education programs work, based on scientific research? What funding and resource opportunities exist? What can schools do to close the achievement gap and raise the graduation rate among ELL students?

                      • Taking Technology Leadership to the Next Level ... Down?

Visionary technology leadership is essential to systemic integration efforts. But what does the ideal technology leader look like? Is leading systemic change best undertaken "from the top"? Or should we consider more formal efforts to promote grass-roots leadership designed to transform the roles of the most powerful and influential technology innovators - teachers - thereby promoting technology leadership from the next level down?

Dan Pink has suggested six new abilities that will be critical to remain competitive. In today's culture, how can we use technology to facilitate students learning these abilities.

                            • Skip the keynote

These speakers tend to be very expensive and have already published their ideas widely. I would rather see ISTE offer scholarships for participants who may not otherwise be able to attend the conference, than spend $15--20K on a speaker

In the last few years, neuroscientists have begun to unravel the enigma surrounding struggling readers: why they continue to struggle despite appropriate curriculum and excellent interventions. The answers are in the way the brain organizes. For some students, attention, processing speed and working memory skills lag behind other skills and interfere with academic achievement in many areas.
